Context of the Match: This was the first ever live televised Brighton Women’s match. The Albion went into the match in their debut season in the Women’s Super League, the top division, having lost their opening two league fixtures under new manager Hope Powell. Liverpool came to Crawley without a manager after Neil Redfearn resigned having taken charge of just one league match.

The Teams: Last season’s player of the year Dani Buet captained Brighton, linking up with ex-England boss Hope Powell again after she gave her her 8 international caps. Striker Ellie Brazil is the daughter of former Preston & Fulham striker Gary Brazil. Jess Clarke was amongst the more familiar Liverpool players with 52 England appearances.

Presentation Team: BT Sport regularly cover the Women’s Super League with a match on most weekends. Their top team consists of presenter Natalie Quirk and commentators Adam Summerton and Lucy Ward. Quirk and Summerton double up as reporters. Ward has been the go-to co-commentator for the women’s game for a number of years, working on live games on BBC, Channel 4 and BT. Summerton is also BT’s National League commentator and Quirk covers Speedway and reports on various football. The guests were vastly experienced pundits Kelly and Sue Smith, so this is pretty much BT’s strongest team for this league.

Story of the Match: A poor game in truth with very little quality or chances, substitute Rinsola Babajide scored the only goal of the game with five minutes remaining. Gillett in the Brighton goal was caught way out of position as Babajide’s shot from the edge of the box had her scrambling in vein across her goal-line. The defeat left Brighton on three losses from three in the league and second from bottom.
