Euro 2004

England went into the 2004 European Championships with a realistic chance of taking the continent’s greatest prize. Sven Goran Eriksson’s so-called ‘golden generation’ were beginning to gel, with the likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard joining the established ranks of David Beckham and Paul Scholes in midfield, whilst up top the exciting new prospect of teenager Wayne Rooney had only just burst onto the scene. BBC and ITV would be based over in host country Portugal to see how things would unfold. Experienced anchor Des Lynam would bow out of Live sports broadcasting at the end of it, having been a constant across both channels for the past thirty years and more. This is a look at as much of the UK coverage details as possible. It starts here!
